As a means to noninvasively assess concentrations of certain small molecules in the living body, in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy enables the investigation of metabolic systems amidst a high degree of native biological context. Many open questions, however, remain to be explored regarding the methodological limits and appropriate clinical and research application of this tool. In this monthly journal club, with support from the Collaboratory at Columbia University, we present impactful, especially well-constructed, or otherwise compelling works within and around the field of in vivo magnetic resonance spectroscopy among a diverse group of researchers involved to various degrees and from various angles of attack in this specialized but growing domain of inquiry.
